I.

PURPORT OF BOLIVIAN IMMIGRATION LAW.

The Bolivian Immigration Law, of which a copy is herewith sent, is dated March 18th, 1907, and the following is a short abstract of its chief provisions.

Of the Immigrant and his privileges.

Article 1.- Every foreign workmen, agriculturist, or

industrialist under 60 years of age who shall have proved good character and aptitude, and wishes to establish him- self in the territory of the Republic can be considered as an immigrant into Bolivia, and as such shall enjoy:-

(a)

Transportation to his destination with his wife and sons under 18 years of age; (b). Importation free of duty of luggage including a bed and domestic utensils, tools and a sporting gun; (c). Possession of a lot of land up to 50 hectares per head, at a value of 10 centavos the hectare; his sons over 14 years shall have the right, each# one, to a lot of 25 hectares; (d). Special facilities shall be allowed him in making payment for the land in question, as follows:- He may pay in cash, or in five yearly instal- ments. In the latter case 5 interest on the value of the land is payable. Payment of instalments not to be required until the third year after occupation; (e). He may apply to the Labour Office, to be specially created for the purpose of this decree and attached to the Ministry of Colonization and Agriculture with supervision over all immigration matters, for all information and facilities provided herein.
